January 2025: ECOSOC Newsletter: Advancing Sustainable Development and Leaving No One Behind


The January 2025 edition of the ECOSOC Newsletter highlights the Council’s significant role in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The theme for the 2025 ECOSOC and HLPF is “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind.

This edition of the newsletter focuses on upcoming segments, forums, and meetings, as well as the activities of ECOSOC’s regional and functional commissions and expert bodies. It also reflects on past events from November to December 2024, including the 41st session of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR), the ECOSOC Special Meeting on Haiti’s Children, the first Global Workshop for the 2025 Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), the reconvened 33rd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the reconvened 67th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, and the 12th session of the Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals.

The President’s Corner features highlights from the press conference held by the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Mr. Bob Rae, and the Executive Director of UNICEF and Inter-Agency Standing Committee Principal Advocate for Haiti, Ms. Catherine Russell, on the outcomes of the ECOSOC Special Meeting on Haiti’s Children.
