The 2013 coordination segment focused on two main substantive areas:
- Follow-up to the 2012 Ministerial Declaration on “Promoting productive capacity, employment and decent work to eradicate poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable and equitable economic growth at all levels for achieving the Millennium Development Goals”
- Follow-up to the International Conference on Financing for Development
A dialogue with the Executive Secretaries of the Regional Commissions on the theme of “Regional perspectives on the post-2105 development agenda”, took place during the Coordination Segment, and the report of the Secretary-General on regional cooperation in the economic, social and related fields was presented to the Council. See the presentations of the Executive Secretaries:

In addition, the annual overview report of the UN system Chief Executive Board for Coordination (CEB) was presented to the Council during the Coordination Segment.
In its consideration of these issues, the coordination segment provided an opportunity to identify areas where the UN system could promote more comprehensive and integrated approaches and recommended ways in which support can be strengthened against the backdrop of current challenges.
A special attention was made on the contribution that partnerships can make to advance the United Nations development agenda, particularly as it relates to productive capacity, employment and decent work. In the current global context, partnerships are increasingly recognized as important to leverage development activities. The following panels were organized during the segment:
- “Partnerships for productive capacity and decent work” on Friday, 5 July 2013, 3 – 6 p.m. (Issues note; Biographies)
- “Using Human Rights instruments and ILO standards and recommendations to achieve decent work for all” on Monday, 8 July 2013, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Issues note; Biographies)
The discussions on financing for development included a panel event and a general discussion.
