ECOSOC Special Meeting on Agrifood systems transformations for leaving no one behind

BACKGROUND

The Economic and Social Council convened a special meeting on “Agrifood systems transformation for leaving no one behind” on 16 February 2026 in the ECOSOC Chamber at the United Nations Headquarters. The meeting aimed to catalyze coordinated and coherent action in support of agrifood system transformations, building on the momentum, insights, and commitments from recent meetings, conferences, and summits.

Governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders engaged in agrifood systems were convened to engage in dynamic discussions that identified key policy actions to achieve tangible results.

OUTCOME

The outcome of the meeting will be a ‘call to action’ which will feed into various forthcoming meetings of ECOSOC, including the Youth Forum, the Forum on Financing for Development Follow-Up and the Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum), as well as the high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF).
