This course is an annual collaboration between UNITAR and DESA organized for the benefit of Member States. It aims to familiarize participants with the role and functions of the Economic and Social Council and its methods of work; identify and assess the main issues before the Council; enhance understanding of the role of the President, the Bureau, and informal consultations to promote more effective participation; and analyze negotiation dynamics through case studies presented by experts on the adoption of resolutions. The course will also provide information relevant to the upcoming review of ECOSOC and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) during the 80th session of the General Assembly, as well as the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review of operational activities for development of the United Nations system (QCPR).
