WHAT?

The 2018 Integration Segment of ECOSOC will be chaired by His Excellency Mr. Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, Vice-President of ECOSOC (Tajikistan). The Segment will address the theme “Innovative communities: leveraging technology and innovation to build sustainable and resilient societies”. 

WHEN?

The 2018 ECOSOC Integration Segment will take place from 1 to 3 May 2018, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. 

WHY?

The Segment will provide a platform for key stakeholders to review policies that support an integrated approach to achieving sustainable development and poverty eradication, this year with a focus on increasing resilience. The meeting will bring together the key messages from the ECOSOC system as well as integrate inputs from Member States, UN system and key stakeholders on the theme, to consider best practices, lessons learned and recommendations at the national, regional and international levels, with a view to develop action-oriented recommendations for follow-up.

The outcome of the Segment will be a summary by the Vice-President of ECOSOC, highlighting the main policy recommendations and providing guidance on implementing the 2030 Agenda through policy integration. The summary will address the interlinkages between the SDGs, with particular focus on innovative solutions from the national, regional and global levels on ways to effectively enhance resilience and manage risks through policies and technology. The summary will serve as an input into the High-level Segment of the Council and deliberations at the HLPF.

WHO?

The 2018 ECOSOC Integration Segment will bring together high-level representatives of Member States, including Heads of State and Government, ministers, parliamentarians and mayors, representatives of the United Nations system, international organizations, civil society and other non-governmental organizations, academia and the private sector.
