How can we use the leverage of development cooperation to ensure integrated SDG implementation? What are key opportunities and challenges in adjusting development cooperation for implementing the SDGs?
Development cooperation takes many forms – financial resources, capacity building, technology development and transfer, policy advice, and multi-stakeholder partnerships. All will be vital, given the great scale and scope of support needed to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.
The Briefing on the 2016 DCF Preparatory Process, organised by UNDESA, will offer the opportunity to discuss and provide inputs on challenges and opportunities around development cooperation and the 2030 Agenda. The briefing aims to update New-York based delegates and other development experts on the DCF preparatory process and to inform the wider work of the United Nations.
The briefing will feature presentations by the Permanent Missions of Uganda and of Belgium on the DCF high-level symposiums co-organized with UNDESA in their respective countries, as well as opening remarks by H.E. Mr. Oh Joon, President of the Economic and Social Council and Mr. Wu Hongbo, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, who will chair the event. A discussion segment will invite open, fruitful exchange among participants and the speakers.
Interested? The side event welcomes everyone wishing to join the dialogue on development cooperation. It addresses in particular Member State delegates and other stakeholders participating in the ECOSOC Operational Activities Segment who are eager to further engage in the preparations for the 2016 High-level Meeting of the Development Cooperation Forum.
