WHAT?

The Humanitarian Affairs Segment (HAS) provides a unique opportunity for Member States to address challenges, operational and normative progress on the humanitarian policy agenda. This year’s HAS will take place from 23 – 25 June in New York and will focus on The future of humanitarian affairs: towards greater inclusiveness, coordination, interoperability and effectiveness. The HAS also includes two main high-level panel discussions on: a) Effective Humanitarian Assistance; b) Serving the needs of people in complex emergencies. The annual, informal ECOSOC event on the transition from relief to development also represents an important opportunity to discuss the issue of transition. The event will focus on supporting the national priorities in the transition from relief to development: funding and risk management. More specifically, since 1998, the HAS has become an essential platform for discussing the activities and issues related to strengthening the coordination of the humanitarian assistance of the United Nations.

WHO?

The Humanitarian Affairs Segment (HAS) enables Member States to engage with the UN and non-UN humanitarian and development community, the private sector, affected people and other actors from a range of geographic groups on current humanitarian challenges.

Official Meetings and Other Events

The meeting will feature various interactive panel discussions and dialogues. [Official Programme] In the margins, some 30 side-events [Programme coming soon] provide participants with up-to-date information on current humanitarian issues, opportunities and challenges as highlighted by humanitarian and other counterparts, as well as by Member States, private sector and the civil society. For the second time, a trade fair will be organized that showcases how affected people are the first actors of humanitarian action and the difference humanitarian action makes on the ground.
